HOW CAN I BETTER MOTIVATE MY STUDENTS TO PRACTICE?
Choice of repertoire is a major factor for most every student. Dramatic changes in motivation can sometimes occur by consulting the student's interest. This is particularly likely if the teacher has been making all the decisions.

The PreTime® to BigTime® Supplementary Library is specially designed to address motivation. First, determine the appropriate level (It is better to err on the easy side, so that the student can pass a piece in one or two weeks) :

PreTime® for Primer level
PlayTime® for Level 1
ShowTime® for Level 2A
ChordTime® for Level 2B
FunTime® for Level 3
BigTime® for Level 4

Now present the student with three books from the appropriate level. Choose three different styles that the student might enjoy. Let the student handle the books, look through the contents and pages, and hear some of the pieces. Ask the student to select his or her favorite book. Then let the student choose which piece to do first.

When the book is complete, another style can be chosen. Move up to the next level when the student can easily pass a song a week. Continue up the levels, eventually reaching the high status of BigTime® Piano.
