IS A PIANO METHOD NEEDED PAST THE FIRST FEW LEVELS?
Many teachers like to move the student into the classical piano teaching repertoire as soon as possible. This can be done as a supplement to a method by using the Developing Artist® Library. If a method course is abandoned too early, theory skill and sightreading often suffer. While a well-organized and experienced teacher may be able to manage, most students benefit from the structure and planned curriculum of a method. As long as the student is enjoying the pieces in their method, it should be continued. A good method will utilize a variety of styles to stimulate and determine student interest. The teacher can then supplement accordingly.
